Can you put a new roof over the old shingles?
It is legal in most of the Valley and we still advise against it. A second layer traps heat against the deck and hides soft wood you never see. Most manufacturers also cut the material warranty. The savings on tear-off come back as a shorter roof life.
What happens if it rains in the middle of my replacement?
Nothing gets left open. The crew strips only what it can dry in the same day. By late afternoon every exposed plane sits under underlayment. If a cell moves in early, work stops and the open area gets covered. We come back the next clear day.
Will the hammering crack my ceilings?
Hairline cracks in old drywall tape are possible, mostly in homes built before 1990. Take pictures, mirrors and anything on a nail off the walls the night before, and clear the top shelves. We photograph the interior before we start so there is no argument later.
How do I know how many squares my house is?
One square is 100 square feet of roof, not of floor. A 1,800 square foot single-story home with a 5:12 pitch measures near 22 squares. Overhangs and pitch add to the count. A two-story home has a smaller footprint but usually a steeper roof.
Do I have to be home while the crew works?
No. We need gate access, a working exterior outlet and somewhere to park the dumpster. Most owners leave for work and come back to a finished roof. If you do stay, plan for noise from early morning until mid afternoon.
What happens to my satellite dish and solar panels?
A dish comes off and goes back on the same mount, and you may need to re-aim it yourself. Solar panels are different: your solar company removes and resets them, and we schedule the tear-off around their two visits.
