What size carport do I need for two trucks?
Twenty by twenty is the working size for two full size trucks. That leaves room to open both driver doors at once, which an 18 foot width does not. For one truck, 12 by 20 covers the vehicle and still lets you walk around the front.
Can a carport go over the concrete driveway I already have?
Yes. We core through the driveway and pour footings under each post, then patch the cuts. The alternative, bolting posts to the surface of a 4 inch driveway slab, is what fails in a straight-line wind. The footing is the whole point.
Will a carport stop hail damage to my vehicles?
It stops the vertical hail that dents hoods and roofs, which is most of what falls here in spring. It does not stop hail driven sideways by wind, and nothing open on the sides will. Parking under a roof is still the cheapest hail insurance in the Valley.
How tall do the posts need to be for a truck with a rack?
Nine feet of clear height under the beam handles most work trucks with a ladder rack. A stock pickup fits under 8 feet. We measure your actual vehicle instead of guessing, because a carport you cannot pull into is a total loss.
Can a carport be closed in later to make a garage?
The roof frame is the easy part. Walls catch wind on the side, so the posts and beam get sized for that load up front. The harder problem is underneath, because a driveway slab has no thickened edge to carry a wall. A garage usually needs new perimeter footings. Bring it up before we quote and both get drawn that way now.
