My McAllen house already has tile. How much does removal add to the job?

Removal is usually the longest part, and it is priced as its own line so you can see it. Old tile comes up in pieces. The thinset under it has to be ground off before anything new goes down. Thinset left on the slab is what makes a new floor sit high and sound hollow. The rooms still in use get closed off with plastic and every cut is made in the driveway, because removal dust travels further than installation dust.

Can you run one floor through the whole house when the rooms sit at different heights?

Usually, and it takes prep. Homes remodeled a room at a time end up with steps at the doorways. We grind the high spots and patch the low ones. Every door gets checked for clearance before the first tile is set. Where a step has to stay, you get a transition built for it. You do not get a lip that catches a toe.

The slab in my McAllen house has a crack. Can you still tile over it?

It depends on the crack. A hairline shrinkage crack gets patched and tiled over with no trouble. A crack with a height difference between the two sides is still moving. Tile set straight over it cracks again in the same line. Those get an uncoupling membrane, or the tile stops at a joint. We tell you which one you have before you choose a material.
