Most fence failures here start underground, where a sprinkler soaks the same 6 inches of post every morning. Clay soil swells and shrinks with the season, and the concrete collar cracks. Then one spring gust finishes it. That is why we check every post on a run before quoting a repair. A fence that lost one post in March usually loses two more by June.

Should I repair this fence or replace it?
Count the posts. If one or two posts in a 100 foot run are bad and the pickets are sound, repair it. Once a third of the posts move and the boards split from the bottom, every repair buys you a season. At that point you pay for the fence twice. We give you both numbers.
My gate sags and drags. Does it need to be rebuilt?
Usually not. Three things cause a dropped gate: a leaning hinge post, a frame that has racked out of square, or hinges worn out at the pin. A cable and turnbuckle pulls the frame back square, and a third hinge spreads the load. The post gets reset only if it has moved.
A storm leaned my fence. Which posts are actually damaged?
Look at the ground, not the fence. A post that has broken free shows cracked concrete in a ring and soil heaved on one side. On the other side you can slide a finger into the gap. Posts that are only pushed over with their footing intact can often be pulled back and reset.
Will the new wood match the rest of my fence?
Not on day one. New cedar comes out light and the fence around it has already gone silver, so the patch shows. It blends on its own in 6 to 12 months of Valley sun. To match sooner, put a coat of tinted sealer on the new boards. That closes most of the gap.
Do you repair fences you did not build?
Most of our repair work is on fences someone else built. We quote what is in front of us, post by post. When the cheapest honest answer is to leave the fence alone another year, we say so. Work we repair carries our workmanship warranty on that repair.
